In an effort to decrease the threat of obesity among America’s youth, BODIES…The Exhibition and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada are teaming up to install a children’s vegetable garden as part of September’s National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. An unveiling ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. at the Reynolds clubhouse [2980 Robindale Rd. Henderson, NV] during which Dr. Roy Glover, Medical Director and spokesperson for BODIES…The Exhibition, will address issues about childhood obesity and how children can maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The children’s garden—a collaboration between BODIES…The Exhibition and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada — is dedicated to making nutritious food more available, and fostering environments that support healthy choices among young people. The Reynolds clubhouse will also implement creative and interactive programming to educate children on the importance of a healthy diet and how to incorporate fresh produce into their daily lives.

“We are thrilled that BODIES…The Exhibition has chosen to sponsor a garden at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada,” said Ken Rubeli, Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. “It’s an excellent opportunity to engage kids in making better diet choices and implement an ongoing, positive impact on their health.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 17 percent (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese. Parents, health care providers, educators and organizations are encouraged to observe National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month with programs and activities to help prevent childhood obesity, promote healthy eating and physical activity, and increase awareness of childhood obesity among individuals of all ages.

“Obesity affects millions of children and teenagers, raising their risk of developing serious health problems,” said Dr. Glover, spokesperson for BODIES…The Exhibition. “However, with early prevention and education, our youth can make healthy lifestyle choices to improve and prolong their lives.”

To further support childhood obesity awareness, BODIES…The Exhibition will display didactics throughout the month of September, emphasizing the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices at an early age. With more than 200 partial and full body specimens, the Exhibition provides an unprecedented opportunity for families to learn about the human body and how to protect it.

Described as a “life-changing experience,” BODIES…The Exhibition inside Luxor Hotel and Casino is one of the most fascinating and educational experiences in Las Vegas. The real human bodies have been meticulously dissected, preserved through an innovative process and respectfully presented, giving visitors the opportunity to view the beauty and complexity of their own organs and systems like never before. Tickets are available at the Luxor box office or by visiting BodiesTheExhibition.com. Regularly priced tickets are $32 for adults, $30 for seniors and $24 for children 4 – 12 years of age. The Exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with last admission at 9 p.m. It is recommended that children 12 and under are accompanied by a teacher or parent as an adult guide.
