Event Description

As Team USA competes for the pride of our nation at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, the U.S. Olympic Committee wishes to take this opportunity to give back to those who need our support.

Many of Team USA's achievements in the Olympic and Paralympic Games come from the strength of our country's sports infrastructure and support network. We are privileged to be able to provide development opportunities to our athletes, from community youth programs to Olympic and Paralympic competition.

The devastating earthquake that laid waste to the capital city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, took many sport and education development opportunities from the city's children and adults alike. Right now, 300 people a day in Haiti are suffering amputations as a result of the earthquake.

In the spirit of the Olympic Movement, whose aim is to build a better, more peaceful world through sport, we urge our fellow Americans and Olympic enthusiasts to help us restore and rebuild the sports infrastructure in Haiti by making a generous donation today.

RESTORE

An estimated 100,000 Haitian children are living in refugee camps right now. These children have nothing left, and now nothing to do. With your help, we're funding recreational programs and donating sports equipment for children in tent cities.

REBUILD

Haiti had only one gymnasium for public use before the earthquake. This structure was completely ruined by the disaster. We are helping to rebuild this gym, and a nearby school, in Port-au-Prince, with your support.

We sincerely hope that you will take this chance to help Haiti's children heal through sport… and to rebuild the country's shattered infrastructure. Your generosity shows the world that Americans are still standing strong with Haiti.

Sincerely,

Mike English
Chief of Sport Performance
U.S. Olympic Committee
