Who is Russ Shanks? One might say he is an artist on the rise with an edgy, aggressive flow. Another might say he has grown in his lyrical content and stage presence which captures his audience’s attention. To sum it all up, both statements are very true. With 2 Newsome Awards (2009 and 2010) and recently declared the 2013 DMV Christian Music Awards Male Holy Hip Artist of the Year, the Baltimore native, Russ Shanks is a prime example “tenacity”

With 2 albums already under his belt (2006, he released “Underdog”. Songs like “Weapon” and “Sunday Morning” and in 2009 “Christ Pathogen” with the hit track and video “Rize” remix featuring Sekou Haze, Young Prophet and MLiK)  one would think he would take a break. However, he is about to prove otherwise. Set to be released worldwide Tuesday, November 12th, Russ Shanks pulls a record set of 26 features (Dee Black, Scope, Derek Thompson, Mike Trotter Jr., and SheFlowz  just to name a few) to complete his 3rd project titled… E.P.I.C.(Ever Present In Christ). “Irreplaceable” (featuring Tameka Harris) is already being played on Stellar radio stations and the award nominated video is constantly posted on social media sites and viewed on Youtube. With so many features, expect to hear different styles, lyrical flow and production. From “Old School” hip hop flavor to what the teenagers like today, this album is for the grandfather that used to rock a thick gold chain and a Kango hat as well as his grandson who is swinging his Jesus Piece. Bridging gaps, reaching more souls for Christ, and displaying unity among the Urban Gospel Community is the vision for the album. 

When asked the final goal behind his 3rd project, Russ Shanks replied “I want E.P.I.C to be the blueprint for future artists. My heart is to show that on 1 album, everyone can have an equal stake. In hip hop, there is always a friendly competition as well. I feel it helps an artist sharpen his skills like the bible says in Proverbs 21:17 ...iron sharpens iron”
