Heart

Venue: Grand Events Center

Genre: Rock

Artist Info: Heart consists of sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, who joined the already-formed band in the early ’70s. Ann served as lead vocals while Nancy was the backup singer and played lead guitar. The band became a smash success upon their first album Dreamboat Annie. The album earned platinum status and included hits such as “Magic Man” and “Crazy on You.” The band’s albums, including 1977’s Little Queen and 1978’s Dog & Butterfly helped Heart earn its good name in rock history. The band’s success continued through the ’80s and ’90s, with 1985’s Heart, 1987’s Bad Animals and 1990’s Brigade. Hit singles during this time, include “What About Love?” “How Can I Refuse?,” “These Dreams,” “How Do I get you Alone?” and “Alone.” Throughout the ’90s, the Wilson sisters went on brief hiatuses from Heart to perform with a folk rock quartet they formed. In 2010, Heart released the album Red Velvet Car.

Artist Info: Now appearing twice a month, hosts and singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “I Could Never Love You Enough” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “That’s Cool,” present “Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song.” In addition to these two talented musicians, they host well-known songwriters to create a fun and unique experience, akin to Nashville’s Bluebird Café.

 

Earl Bud Lee has many songs to his writing credit, including one of the most popular country music songs of all time, “Friends in Low Places” recorded by Garth Brooks. Lee has written several other hits throughout his career, including Blake Shelton’s "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking" and George Strait’s “One Night at a Time.” In addition to writing music, Anthony Smith is also a singer with several hits of his own, including “If That Ain’t Country” and “Half a Man.” He has also co-written several hit songs for famed country artists, such as George Strait’s “Run” and “Cowboys Like Us,” Montgomery Gentry’s “What Do Ya Think About That” and Trace Adkins’ “Chrome,” among others.

Artist Info: Founded in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 70 million albums and has experienced multi-platinum success around the world. Foreigner has produced 16 Top 30 hits, including “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “Double Vision” and “Hot Blooded.” Foreigner’s album, 4, spent more weeks on the Billboard chart at No. 1 than any other artist in Atlantic Records’ history. Their hit single, “Waiting For A Girl Like You” was No. 2 on the Billboard singles chart for 14 weeks, which is a record in Billboard magazine history. This helped drive Foreigner to No. 49 on Billboard’s Hot 100 All Time Top Artists Chart. Foreigner does charitable work to help music education in the public school system, and the band’s 2010 tour featured a contest promotion with VH1 Save The Music Foundation that gave participating high school choirs and Glee clubs the opportunity to win the chance to perform live on stage with Foreigner. Each winning high school also received $1,000 toward its music program.

Artist Info: Livingston Taylor has enthralled audiences for 40 years with a diverse original repertoire of country, folk, bluegrass and blues. Taylor has toured with Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffett and Fleetwood Mac, among many others, but his fans most often come to see him to experience the winning combination of raconteur, balladeer and pure fun music making that characterize his concerts. Darius Rucker

Artist Info: Originally the lead singer for Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker was one of the most popular singers in the ’90s. The band took a break in the late ’90s, allowing Rucker to launch his solo career, and explore his country influences. His first album, Learn to Live was well-received by country fans. The album quickly reached platinum status with No. 1 singles:  “Don't Think I Don't Think About It” and “It Won’t be Like this for Long” During the 43^rd Annual Country Music Association Awards, Rucker received the Top New Artist award. The release of his second country album Charleston, SC 1966 in fall 2010 is keeping him a household name with as the No. 1 hit “Come Back Song” and Top 10 “This.”

Artist Info: Great White first entered the rock scene in 1984. Since then, the band has achieved worldwide success, encompassing sales of more than 6 million records. They received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” and earned a double platinum status for the album …Twice Shy. The band consists of original members Jack Russell on vocals, Mark Kendall on lead guitar, Audie Desbrow on drums, Michael Lardie on guitar/keyboards and Sean McNabb on bass. For its 25^th anniversary, the band hit the studio and released Back To The Rhythm in July 2007, featuring the songs “I’m Alive,” “Was it The Night?” and “Just Yesterday.”

 

Hard rock band, Slaughter first hit the music scene in 1990 with the release of the multi-platinum debut album Stick it to Ya that featured the hit songs “Up All Night” and “Fly to the Angels.” Later that year, the band released the live album Stick It Live that quickly reached gold certification. In 1992, the band released its second studio album WildLife, which reached platinum status and featured the hit songs “Real Love,” “WildLife” and “Days Gone By.” In 2001, Slaughter was a part of the “Voices of Metal” tour featuring Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe, Ratt and Vixen. In April 2004, the band released a DVD-Audio entitled “Then and Now” that features 12 songs and 50 rare photos of the band over the years. Currently, Slaughter consists of Slaughter on guitar and lead vocals, Strum on bass, Blas Elias on drums and Jeff Blando on lead guitar.

Red Rock Resort’s Saturday night concert series “Party on the Rocks” continues this month with shows every Saturday night at Rocks Lounge. Station Casinos has taken favorites, from artists spanning the genres and decades, and brings them to guests weekly. All tickets are $20 plus tax and applicable fees.

The Edgar Winter Group

Artist Info: Multi-instrumentalist Edgar Winter’s music encompasses many different genres, including rock, jazz, blues and pop. Winter got his start performing with his brother’s band and then with his own band, White Trash. It wasn’t until he formed The Edgar Winter Group in 1972 though that he truly hit it big. His debut album They Only Come Out at Night in 1973 reached No. 3 on the U.S. charts and featured the hit songs “Frankenstein” at No. 1 and “Free Ride” at No. 14. Winter has continued to tour and record. He has also made frequent television appearances, including “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Winter’s live shows consistently receive rave reviews, and he continues to thrill his audiences with his performances.

Morris Day & The Time

Artist Info: After making a name for himself as one of pop’s most verbally pretentious vocalists in the s’80s with Prince’s band The Time, singer Morris Day embarked on a solo career that began with the release of 1985’s Color of Success. Daydreaming, his second album, released in 1987, featured the production work of ex-Time members Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam. Together, they managed to reproduce some of the funky flair the trio is known for with ”Fishnet,” a single that soared to the R&B No. 1 slot shortly after its release. A third album, Dangerous, was released in 1992. In June 2004, Morris Day & The Time recorded an album on Hollywood Records entitled It’s About Time.  Hit songs throughout his career, include “Jungle Love,” “The Bird,” “Gigolos Get Lonely Too” and “Wild and Loose,” among others.

Bruce Hornsby

Genre: Pop/Rock

Artist Info: Bruce Hornsby got his start writing for 20^th Century Fox where he met musician Huey Lewis who went on to record and produce his material. In 1985, Hornsby and his band, the Range, signed with RCA and released their  debut album, The Way It Is, the following year. The album produced three Top 20 hits, including “The Way It Is,” selling more than 2 million copied and netting Hornsby and the Range the Best New Artist Grammy Award in 1986. Hornsby’s second album, Scenes from the Southside, included the hit “The Valley Road.” Since then, Hornsby has released numerous albums including Big Swing Face in 2002, Halcyon Days in 2004, Camp Meeting in 2007 and Levitate in 2009.

Artist Info: New Orleans’ rock ‘n’ roll band Cowboy Mouth has spent the gamut of its 15-plus year career touring. With more than 2,000 shows under its belt and numerous albums released, they are standing the tests of time. Among their albums are Are You with Me? that peaked at No. 10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and Mercyland, which peaked at No. 32 on the same chart. The band prides itself on its audience – both in age difference catering to both the young and old, and to the participation of its audience at live shows.

Leon Russell

Artist Info: Leon Russell is known for his collaborations with artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Phil Spector and the Rolling Stones, among others. After touring with the Rolling Stones, Russell focused on his solo career and in 1972, he released the album Carney, which featured his first pop single “Tight Rope.” In 1976, Russell wrote “This Masquerade,” which earned a Grammy Award for singer George Benson. Russell has continued to write and tour with other artists as well as pursue his solo endeavors. He released a string of albums from 2002 through 2008. In 2010, Russell collaborated with Elton John on the 14-song album The Union, which included  the Grammy-nominated song “It Wasn’t for the Bad.” On March 14, 2011, Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by John, and he will be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in June.

Artist Info: BJ Thomas has sold more than 70 million records during his four decades as a pop musician. The following year, he hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart with his rendition of “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head” from the film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Throughout his career, Thomas has earned two platinum records, 11 gold records and won five Grammy awards, among other achievements. His hit songs include “Eyes of a New York Woman,” “Rock and Roll Lullaby,” “I Just Can’t Help Believing” and “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Something Wrong Song.”

Artist Info: Eddie Money gained success from hit singles like “Take Me Home Tonight,” “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Baby Hold On,” becoming one of the most popular rock ‘n’ roll artists of the past two decades. Money has also worked on theme songs for the Arena Football League (AFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB). In 2007, Money released the album Wanna Go Back, a compilation of songs from the ’60s when Money was first getting his start in the music industry. In conjunction with the album release, he partnered with De La Montanya Winery to produce Wanna Go Back!, a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. All of the gross proceeds will be donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.  Money has made several television appearances throughout the years, including on the hit show “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” with daughter Jesse in 2008.

Eric Burdon & The Animals

Artist Info: Eric Burdon’s recording career began in Newcastle, England, where he first covered songs by his idols such as Ray Charles and John Lee Hooker, among others. His band, Eric and The Animals, quickly gained notoriety as England’s best R&B band when they were selected by the pirate radio station Radio Caroline as the feature for the first broadcast to the U.S. By 1964, The Animals gained international fame with the release of an electrified version of the traditional folk number, “The House of the Rising Sun.” Afterwards, they followed with such classics as “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” and “See See Rider.” Following The Animals, Burdon joined the funk band WAR and in 1970 released the hit album Eric Burdon Declares WAR, which includes the hit songs “Tobacco Road” and “Spill the Wine.” One year later, he left the band to pursue a solo career. In 1995, Burdon and the original Animals were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Burdon released solo albums Soul of a Man in 2006 and Mirage in 2008. He currently tours with the new Animals and released the album Super Star with them in 2008.

Edwin McCain

Artist Info: Early in his career, Edwin McCain gained success by touring with Hootie & the Blowfish. He has released numerous albums throughout the years, reaching hits with the songs “I’ll Be” and “I Could Not Ask For More.” McCain is known for being with of the most ambitious touring musicians around; performing more than 300 shows a year. In the spring of 2009, McCain performed on the USS John C. Stennis while the ship was on deployment in Guam.

They have since scored numerous more, including “I Drink Alone,” “Born to Be Bad,” “Get a Haircut” and “You Talk Too Much,” among others Their compilation album, Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock went gold and was No. 1 on Billboard’s blues chart for 60 weeks. In 2009, the band released its latest album, The Dirty Dozen.

Artist Info: Presented by Bonkerz Comedy Productions, Louie LOL at the Louie Anderson Theater is family-friendly show where guests can catch the esteemed headliner in his intimate showroom. A two-time Emmy award winner, Anderson is one of the country’s most recognized and adored comics. The comic’s material relates stories about growing up in the Midwest, being one of 11 children and dealing with an alcoholic father.

Anderson was named by Comedy Central as “One of 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time.” His TV and film work includes starring in his own CBS sitcom “The Louie Show” and his own comedy specials for both HBO and Showtime, as well as several films including “Coming to America” opposite Eddie Murphy. Anderson has hosted the syndicated hit series, “Family Feud” and was executive producer and creator of the two-time Emmy Award-winning animated series on FOX, “Life with Louie.” In addition to his TV and film credits, Anderson is also a best-selling author and has written three books, including the best-seller book “Dear Dad-Letters from an Adult Child” in 1989.
